Descendants of Isaac H. Skinner

Generation No. 1

1. ISAAC H.1 SKINNER was born 1800 in Georgia, and died Abt. 1887. He married MARY ANN HARLEY 30 Nov 1824 in Newton County Georgia, daughter of WILLIAM HARLEY and ELIZABETH PRYOR. She was born 1806, and died 1870.

Notes for I
SAAC H. SKINNER:
Per Nelson Skinner, son of Andrew Jackson Skinner, (family interview from 1998 at age 92) he was always told that the Skinner family came from an area in South Carolina that is now known as Paris Island area, which is in Beufort County, SC. Research is continuing on the South Carolina Skinner families. It is not known exactly when the Skinner family left South Carolina and went to Georgia. Isaac H. Skinner is first located in a census as head of household in 1830 in Henry County, GA.
In 1840 and 1850 he is in Coweta County, GA and in 1860 in Carroll County, Georgia; he died before 1870; gravemarkers/tombstones have not been located for Isaac H. Skinner or Mary A. Harley, who are presumed (by family legend) to be buried either in Carroll County, GA or Cleburne County, Alabama near other Skinner ancestors.

Notes: Carroll County, Georgia Voter Registration 1867 - 1868 shows Francis M. Skinner, Samuel P. Skinner, Wiley W. Skinner in Bowdon Election District; there is not a listing for Isaac H. Skinner, which suggests he was deceased by then, or no longer in Carroll County.
THANKS TO CANDACE GRAVELLE FOR ABOVE INFORMATION.

Much research has and is still going on to find the parents of Isaac H. Skinner. In an article in "The Cleburne County Heritage Book" it is stated that he is the son of John Skinner and Susannah Coaker and the grandson of Captain Isaac Skinner and Jane Jackson. I have not found any proof of this. I have found a John Skinner living in Columbia County GA in 1820 who could possibly be Isaac's father, but there are several other John Skinners living in Georgia. Don't know who these John Skinner's parents are or whether they are connected to our Isaac or not. This John Skinner in Columbia County is promising as he lived in the same area as Isaac.
