The Slayton Family Home Page

Updated September 5, 2000

This home page is designed for the distribution of information concerning the Slayton Family that settled in Texas and Arkansas. Other geographical locations will be available, but on a limited basis. It is hoped that the information available here will aid you in your family research and will aid in discovering the historical significance of the Slayton Family heritage.
The Slayton family came to Texas from various parts of the country. Many setted in East Texas in and near the following counties: Titus, Franklin, Upshur, Camp, Marion, and Red River.

Sanford G. Slayton became a citizen of the Republic of Texas in 1839. He received a class 3 land grant of 640 acres in the Red River District of Texas--near Jefferson, Texas. The 1850 Census state that he and his wife Mary came from Virginia originally, but were a part of the migration of Tennesseans to Texas in the 1830's. Sanford G. Slayton had 6 children: William F., b. 1835; Margaret Virginia (Donagy), b. 1840; Charles Edward, b. 1842; Augusta Catherina (Ferguson), b. 1844; Lucie C. (Lawrence), b. 1848; and Eugenia Slayton (Davies), b. 1851. Their descendents are scattered throughout East Texas.

I am researching the following family lines: Slayton, Teague, Childers, Dillard, Hughes, Kelley, and Norman.
