I remember visiting here as a child.I think that grandparents, Tom and Mary Strickland Evans lived here at that time.A big turkey gobbler chased us kids around the house more than once!House is boarded up and in bad condition.Part of the old barn is still standing across the road."To get to the Strickland homestead and Union Home-Twin Churches Cem.:Go East on OLD highway 32 and turn north (before Greasy Creek). Turn back East on road 32-79. The Strickland home (which later was John and Alice Engle's place) is across the road from the barn. An 'underwater' bridge (concrete paving through the Creek) crosses Greasy Creek. The road goes on to the cemetery where there used to be two churches, and on past the Engle school before coming back out on highway 32." (Location info from Linda Conrad Hileman) |
