William and Mary Ann Chittum Slack moved from Virginia to Missouri sometime before the Civil War. They are great great grandparents of Don Slack. Mary Ann had five brothers that served in the Confederate Army. I am trying to find out who William's parents and siblings were. Bradley, Edmisson, Deacon Hill and Boone family information is also needed.

On my mother's side of the family Evans, Strickland, Smith, Null, Lawler and Arnold information is needed. Henry Foster and Lavina A. Null Evans are Don's great great grandparents. Henry Foster and his brother Richard served in the Union Army.

I have received much new information during the last two years from contacts on the Internet from new "long lost cousins"! Many thanks to all that contibuted those pieces of the puzzle.

  • Clement Evan Strickland Place (35 KB)
I remember visiting here as a child. I think that grandparents, Tom and Mary Strickland Evans lived here at that time. A big turkey gobbler chased us kids around the house more than once! House is boarded up and in bad condition. Part of the old barn is still standing across the road. "To get to the Strickland homestead and Union Home-Twin Churches Cem.: Go East on OLD highway 32 and turn north (before Greasy Creek). Turn back East on road 32-79. The Strickland home (which later was John and Alice Engle's place) is across the road from the barn. An 'underwater' bridge (concrete paving through the Creek) crosses Greasy Creek. The road goes on to the cemetery where there used to be two churches, and on past the Engle school before coming back out on highway 32." (Location info from Linda Conrad Hileman)
