Robert Boyd was a Colonel of an Irish Regiment and he engaged in an insurrection, afterward which he fled to America with his wife of six weeks. They were on the water for three months. Upon arrival they went to her brother James Robb in Philadelphia, this was in 1791, and there Elizabeth was born. James Robb fitted them out with horses, etc., and they came to Washington County, Pennsylvania. Robert Boyd being an Irish patriot had his property confiscated and the parents of his wife, Mary, being opposed to the marraige, disinherited her. Mary and Robert were married in Ireland and as they were not of the established church, being Presbyterians, there is no record of the marriage.
