The Slater family connections:Thomas Slater of Holland Michigan, born 1867. Original name - Tuinis Sluiter. Later changed to Thomas Sluiter and finally Thomas Slater. Brothers: Simon, Albert and Benjamin. Sisters: Denna and Etta. Etta was the twin sister of Thomas. The parents names: Garrett Sluiter and Tenna Klompanden. Garrett's parent's names. Simon Klaasen Sluiter and Etta Bakker-Venhuizeng. Simon, Etta and their three sons, Jacob, Isaac and Garrett, immigrated from the Netherlands to New York on Sept 23, 1847 on the Sarah Boyd ship and then migrated to Holland Mich. Tenna(Denna) was the daughter of Albert Klompanden and Fueca(?) also from the Netherlands.
Ahijah Leroy Adams: Born in New York circa 1848 and later resided in Owosso and Corruna Mich where he inlisted in the Union Army in Company 'G' 3rd Regiment of Michigan Infantry. Ahijah married Mary E. Hatch. Two of their children was a son, Asa and a Daughter Helen Almira who later married Thomas Slater. Most of the Adams family live in or around Owosso Michigan.
Jonathan Samuel Laningham: Locust Fork, Blount County, Ala. Married Susan Irene Bentley. Jonathan died in 1913. Children: Selma Louisa, Samuel Laningham Fowler and Elsie Louetta. Selma married Claude Harris of Birmingham Al. and had one child - Eddie Lee Harris. Samuel had no children, Elsie married Harley Ahijah Slater and had two sons Thomas Harley and Fred Carl. She was Married five times. #2 - Frank Honeycutt of Birmingham Al. area - no children. #3 Jess Leroy Crum from Dayton, Ohio and Married in Hollywood, Fla. and had one son William James Crum. William was murdered by his third wife in Phoenix, Ariz in the early 1990 and buried in the National Cemetary in the Phoenix area. #4 again Jess Crum. #5 Jim Compton a charter boat captain in the Miami and Palm Beach area.
Susan Irene Bentley from the Locust Fork Al, area. Susan and her sister Lula married the Lanningham brothers of that area. Four Bentleys are listed on the Civil War roster of the 48th Ala. Regiment, Co. 'I'.
