2. ELIZABETH² CAYTON (JACOB¹) was born Abt. 1771 in VA, and died Unknown in ?. She married DUTTON LANE (Source: Gallatin County Deed Book K, pg. 72.) Abt. 1799 in Virginia, son of DUTTON LANE and ELIZABETH OAKES. He was born 1761 in Halifax Co, VA (Source: Frank Hussong Web Site.), and died March 1846 in Ripley Co, IN (Source: Estate Settlement of Dutton Lane, Ripley County Historical Society Files, See copy in my Alexander files..).

Notes for DUTTON LANE:
Dutton was born in a part of Halifax Co, VA, that later became Pittsylvania, Co. He moved his family to Gallatin Co, Ky, around 1806. He is mentioned in several land deals, and wills, and in the will of his father in the early 1800's. He and his father also appear in the tithable lists for Henry Co in 1790 and 1800. Dutton appears in the 1810 Federal Census Index for Gallatin County. He is listed as a witness in the will of Jacob Cayton, his father-in-law, in June, 1808, Gallatin County Will Book A, pg 139. See copy of sale of Gallatin County land in April, 1833, in my Alexander/Rainey files. Deed gives place of residence as Ripley County, IN. Dutton purchased eighty acres of public land in Ripley Co, from the Federal government June 8, 1833. See copy of certificate in my files.
He appears in the 1840 Federal Census Index for Ripley County, IN. He sued several men for disturbing his peace in Ripley Co in the 1830's.

Notes for PHILLIP CAYTON:
Phillip was the youngest son of Jacob and Margaret Cayton. He came to Gallatin County with his parents around 1806. He later moved to Switzerland County, Indiana, and about 1840, came back to Kentucky and settled in Boone County. The 1850 census for Boone County shows him as a farmer with a net worth of $2,000.00 It is thought that Cayton Road in Boone County is named for the family. Ernie and I cleaned and reset his tombstone at East Bend Methodist Church, on 29 July, 2001.
