-------------

Conrad Sly settled in Warwick, Orange County, New York in 1780. (He was not listed in the 1775 Orange County Assessment Rolls.) He was a blacksmith by trade. We believe that he had previously lived in Long Pond, New Jersey. Long Pond was a settlement based upon the mining and smelting of iron. He was married to Anna Ward, the daughter of Thomas Ward, a shopkeeper in the Village of Long Pond. We have located a 1776 map which indicates that a Sly/Ward family lived on the Old Post Road somewhat south of White Plains in Westchester County, New York. We have not been able to confirm the identity of this Sly/Ward family

Conrad is supposed to have helped to supervise the construction of the chain placed across the Hudson River during the American Revolution. (I have no primary source material to support this.)

We're still working on identifying Conrad's origins. Please contact me with any information you may have!
