I am currently researching several families that eventually settled in the Upper South Carolina and Lower North Carolina areas in the late 1700's and early 1800's. Most of these families ended up in the Pickens County, Oconee County, and Greenville County areas of South Carolina.Several of the SURNAMES I am researching include ALEXANDER, ALLISON, BARNETT, BEESON, BOLEN, KARR, FISHER, GREENE, HINTON, KEY, LEWIS, LOCKABY, MEDLOCK, MELTON, MOODY, PATTERSON, OWENS, SCHULER, SMART, STANCIL, and STEPHENS.The BEESON family is well-documented as a Quaker family originally from England, settling in the Chester County, PA area in the late 1600's and eventually migrating to the Guilford County, NC area in the 1700's. Ann BEESON married David LEWIS whose daughter, Elizabeth LEWIS married Micajah ALEXANDER around 1802.The ALEXANDER family is also well-documented as the descendants of Daniel Alexander, born around 1760 in Virginia and migrating to the Pickens County, SC area in the early 1800's. Micajah ALEXANDER was the son of Daniel ALEXANDER.Micajah ALEXANDER and Elizabth LEWIS had a son, John Baptist ALEXANDER, born around 1811. He married Elizabeth STANCIL (Stansell).William David SMART was from the Laurens County, SC area. He married Fannie KARR from Gainesville, GA and had a son, Thurman SMART. The MOODY's were from the Hendersonville, NC area.Any information on these surnames and any other related surnames would be greatly appreciated. I will also be happy to share any information I have accumulated so far. |
