2. JAMES EARL2 MOODY (JOEL1) was born June 21, 1840 in Oconee County, South Carolina, and died February 15, 1877. He married RHODA SHED December 22, 1859 in Pickens County, SC, daughter of JOEL SHED and ELIZABETH LEMANCE.

Notes for JAMES EARL MOODY:
Confederate Army - SC, 12th Inf. Co. G, Sgt. Enlisted 8/23/1861 in Walhalla, SC. On last roll November/December 1864. Promoted to 5th Sergeant on November 1, 1864.

According to 1860 SC census, Pickens District, SC, 2nd Regiment, Microfilm page 18 - James Moody, 20 years old, Farmer, Born in SC. Wife Rhoda, 18 years old, born in SC. No children. Living next door to parents and family (See Joel Moody).

According to 1850 SC census, Pickens County, SC, Western Division, 8/1/1850, Microfilm page 378 - James Moody living with parents, age 10 years old

Keowee Courier, issue of Saturday, 1/7/1860:
Married - on the 22nd ultimo, by Wm. M. Morton, Mr. James Moody to Miss Rhoda Shed, all of Pickens.

Buried Moody-Turner-Anders Cemetery on Mark Beech Rd., upper Greenville County. James was a Civil War veteran. He died of erysipelas, caused by having caught his moustache whiskers in his saddle girdle on his horse.

According to 1860 SC census, Pickens District, SC, 2nd Regiment, Microfilm page 18 - James Moody, 20 years old, Farmer, Born in SC. Wife Rhoda, 18 years old, born in SC. No children. Living next door to parents and family (See Joel Moody).

Keowee Courier, issue of Saturday, 1/7/1860:
Married - on the 22nd ultimate, by Wm. M. Morton, Mr. James Moody to Miss Rhoda Shed, all of Pickens.

In 1890, Rhoda owned 70 acres of woodland and 10 acres of tilled ground. The farm was valued at $100.00. She owned $2.00 worth of tools and $70 worth of livestock. She spent $3 repairing and building during the year. The estimated value of her produce was $100. This included 80 pounds of butter, 8 fleeces which weighed 12 pounds and 100 bushels of Indian corn. She had 1 sheep on hand. There had been 3 lambs dropped during the year. One of these died of disease. She had 11 hogs and 1 mule.
