July, 2001: The information on Silvy was found in the 1880 Census report of Crawford County, Georgia. Silvy was the mother of Ben Wornum. Until this time our descendant research was confined to Ben Wornum. We know that Silvy was born into slavery in North Carolina, 1804. We also know from the census report that Ben's father was born in South Carolina. At the time of this census report, Silvy was living with Ben and she was 76 years old.
Did Silvy have any other childen? Who was Ben's father? Was he able to live a free life or did he die knowing nothing but the harshness of slavery?
