Welcome to the Wornum Family Reunion Tree Maker Page. I have over 2000 entries listed and still counting. This would not have happened,if it were not for my uncle, the late J.B. Wornum and the work he has done to gather this data. He did the footwork that began the project.

To date, I have been able to find out that Ben Wornum's mother was named "Silvy". She resided with her son Ben in 1880 and she was 76 years of age. She was born in 1804 in South Carolina. Ben's father was also born in South Carolina but I have not been able to find any further information on him, as of yet.

We believe the origination of the Wornum name in America began with the England born Wornums arriving in America in Northumberland County, Virginia. Our connections in Virginia have led us to know that many slaves were owned by Wornoms in VA and by Wornums who lived in North Carolina until 1830.

Samuel Wornum, resided in Northampton, N.C. in 1790. His household of free white Wornums consisted of approx. 10 people.

Records of May 4, 1859 shows Charles Wornum, Esq. of Flint river, Crawford County, died of drowning on the 15th inst. He was buried in Crawford County was 27 years of age (Columbus Times).

Questions that have arrived out of research:
Did Silvy have other children besides Ben?
Why are the Wornums not listed in the 1930 census?
What happened to Ben's father? Separated during slavery??
What happened to the "white" Wornums in Crawford County?
...these are just a few of the questions left to be answered..
Stay tuned...

Variations of the Wornum name include:

Wornum
Wonnum
Wourman
Wernum
Wurmum
Woumun
Woumnm
Woumn
Werner
Wormum
