In addition to his own children and the 2 children of his second wife, he was also co-guardian of the orphan daughters of William Randolph of "Tuckahoe" - Judith & Mary Randolph. Mary became grandmother of Chief Justice John Marshall (62).1748 JL apptd Councillor; also Col in militia, probably - see S's argument, 63.
Farmed the 3000 acres of Warner Hall estate; also owned ships, engaged in shipping , trade with "distant ports."S includes gossipy letter from JL to Lawrence Washinton in Jamaica, 6/28/1742(64-65).
