Times were tough after the war and CV Morris decided to let farmers help themselves to all the liquor they wanted after they paid their bills. Whiskey was in a barrel at the rear of his store with a dipper tied to the barrel in order that paying customers could help themselves. some customers drank too much whiskey and became disorderly so the Presbyterian Minister preached a sermon about C V Morris who promptly quit the Presbyterian Church and joined the Baptist Church. CV Morris was in favor of a law to sell liquor and his son CW Morris was opposed.
