Notes for William Plummer:
Could this William Plummer be somehow related to our Plummer family?
An association has not been found, however his presence in Adams
County indicates a possible link.
William enlisted as a Private in Company H, 89th Regiment, Indiana
Volunteer Infantry, on August 9, 1862, at Decatur, Adams County,
Indiana. His service record indicates that at the time of enlistment,
in Decatur, he was 35 years of age, five feet 9 1/4 inches in height,
of light complexion with blue eyes and brown hair. His occupation was
listed as "farmer."
The muster rolls show he was in Mobile, Alabama, on July 19, 1865.
William was promoted to Corporal on September 1, 1862. On September
16, 1862, he was taken prisoner at Mumfordville, Kentucky, and paroled
the following day. Soon thereafter he contracted measles and died of
"congestion with measles" at the city hospital in Indianapolis.
The administration papers for William's estate can be found in Box 29
in the records of the Court of Adams County. Richard H. Jones was his
administrator. William owned 40 acres in the undivided 2/3 of the SW
quarter of the SE quarter of Section 16 in Monroe Township. He also
owned the undivided 2/3 of the SE quarter of the SW quarter. These
adjacent properties were three miles south of the town of Monroe. The
first was appraised at $216.66 and the second at $133.33, They were
sold for $450.05. William's widow took goods valued at $100.05 and
cash was paid to a "Robert Plummer" in the amounts of $180, $86.22 and
$83. His widow and his six children were named in the estate papers.
