his real estate was valued at $2,000. It also indicated that he was a

Notes for Wilhelm Treesh:
His name also appears as Wilhelm Frisch. Born in Pennsylvania, he
came to Stark County, Ohio, in about 1818 and settled in what is now
Jackson Township. The book "History of Stark County, Ohio," lists
William Tresch as a land-holder of Jackson Township for the year 1827.
The tax records for Stark County, Ohio, for the year 1835, show a
William TRESH living in Jackson Township. Also shown are his brothers
Christian, David, Henry and Peter TRESH, and his son Michael.
On October 23, 1837, William and Elizabeth sold, for $100, the north
half of the NE quarter of section 35 of Worthington Township (T21R17)
in Richland County, to their son Jacob Treesh. The property contained
80 acres and had a patent bearing the date 15 Dec 1835, apparently
granted to William. The 1840 Ohio Census also lists William Treash
living in Jackson Township of Stark County. The 1850 census for
Jackson Township, Stark County, shows William Treash, age 64, living
with his wife Elisabeth and children Susannah, age 25, and William,
age 20. The value of his property is listed as $9600.
The book "Old Landmarks of Canton and Stark County," by Danner,
describes William as a prosperous man. He accumulated a large estate,
mostly in land, that subsequently increased greatly in value. At the
time of his death in 1861, he was considered one of the most
enterprising farmers and well-to-do men in the township of Jackson. He
held the office of justice of the peace, besides filling various minor
public positions. His life was very closely identified with the
pioneer history and material development of the township and he was
largely instrumental in introducing religion into that part of the
country, having been a zealous member of the Lutheran church.

The 1850 census for Jackson Township, Stark County, shows Michael and
Catherine with nine of their children. It shows that John and Mary
were born in Pennsylvania, indicating that the family did not move to
Stark County until about 1836. Their daughter Eliza is shown as having
been born in Ohio in 1836. The 1870 census for Dekalb County, Indiana,

The book "Old Landmarks of Canton and Stark County" indicates that
Joel's grandfather was Christian and his father was William. It also
confirms that he was born in Pennsylvania. As did his father, Joel
became a farmer and continued that occupation until he retired a few
years before 1904. "At one time he owned land to the amount of one
hundred and ninety-five acres. Of that land, he gave 82 acres to his
