Hi!My name is Diana Smith and I am researching my family tree- the Lanza/Vitale family who came over from Italy around June of 1909.I have traced my Great Grandmother Rita Vitale leaving Caltinesseta, Sicily,Italy about 1907(approx age 32yrs)with her two young children, Michele (B. 1906)and Filippo (B. 1907) Lanza. Her husband Michele Lanza (approx 34yrs) came over from Naples, Italy (originally from Troia, Foggia) about August 1907. He settled in NYC two years before sending for his family. Once here - they traveled to Schenectady, had another daughter Mary M. Lanza May 6, 1914 and a son, Samuel Lanza (Abt 1921). They settled in Rochester, NY where they lived until Michele died in 1932 and Rita died in 1942. Mary M Lanza married Michael S. Addante (B. 1917 in Rochester, NY) in January 1942 and had a daughter Rita Addante (B. October, 1942) in Rochester, NY and a son Anthony Addante (B. 1945). Mary Lanza/Addante died in November, 1954 and Michael Addante died in December, 1984.Parents of Michael Addante were Anthony Addante and Margaret Siporita of Italy.I am not sure where in Italy they emigrated from. But it was about the same time as the Lanza/Vitale family in early 1900s. Rita Addante is my mom and I now have the honor of tracing our family back to our birthplace of Italy.Anyone who can help add to our heritage, please contact me via my email address.I am looking forward to learning all about our unique family.
