These pages contain the family history for Jose Maurilio Martinez of Taos, New Mexico and Alicia Elena Olivas of Valdez, New Mexico.
The ancestors of this couple came into the Kingdom of New Mexico, along the Camino Real, during the conquest of Don Juan de Oñate (1598-1600). Ancestors also arrived after the Oñate Conquest and with the Reconquest of New Mexico by Don Diego de Vargas (1693). Ancestors span over twenty generations and into various countries and such as the present day United States of America (Native Americans), Belgium, France, Greece, Mexico, Portugal, Spain and their colonial provinces such as the Canary Islands. The area now known as New Mexico, after European colonization, has been under the governmental control of three countries: Spain for 223 years (1598-1821), Mexico for 25 years (1821-1846) and the United States of America for 158 years as of 2004 (1846-present).
