Notes for WILLIAM SMITH:
In England, William worked as a butcher. He came to Canada in 1903 for health reasons. William worked for a year in the fernie - Crowsnest coal mining areathen left to homestead a quarter section west of Beauvais Lake AB whick became known as the Upper Smith Place. They had a mixed farm and to suppliment their income William worked in the Cristie Coal Mine in the winter months. He left in 1909 and returned to England leaving his land unoccupied.

Notes for RACHEL SMITH:
Rachale's maiden name was also Smith. She suffered with arthritis and died at age 48 in Pincher Creek AB.
