One of the first known American-Born Generations of the Hoffman Family of Cokesbury, NJ.
The first series of German emigrations arrived in America between the years of 1702 and 1727. About the year 1707 a ship set sail for New York bearing a group of German emigrants. Adverse windws bore the ship into Delaware Bay instead of New York. These emigrants disembarked at philadelphia and at least part of this group started overland toward their original destination. While enroute they came upon a fertile valley in which they decided to settle. This valley is now know as German Valley, NJ. Among them was Hermanus Hoffman. No records of the family of Hermanus Hoffman have been found, however, Henry Hoffman, our earliest know ancestor was probably a son of Hermanus.
