The 2004 Reunion was a great success. Keep watching for info on the next reuion in Germany.

The Martin Schmeisser family of Reigelbach, a village near Dinkelsbuhl, boarded the ship Britannia in 1731 after selling their farm. William Penn recognized their land management skills as ideal for the development of his colony. An unusually long crossing, shortage of rations and prevalence of disease resluted in Martin's death only two weeks before arrival in Philadelphia. This fact was discovered recently in the archives in Philadelphia by Donald Dearing, a descendant of Martin, in the probate record of Matin's estate in 1733. The "Smiser" spelling appears in this document.
Martin's grandson, George SMISER, used this spelling and emigrated with his mother and siblings to Kentucky from Washington Co., MD in 1795. They settled in Bourbon County near Lair Station on the Licking River not far from Cynthiana, KY. Other variations of Smyser include "SMYSOR, SMISOR, SMIZER and SMYZER." However, later arrivals have retained the German spelling variations. Matin's elder son, Matthias, and his descendants maintained the "SMYSER" spelling. When researching the Smyser lines be sure to include these spellings.
In Kentucky George Smiser married three Lair women: Catherine, Mary and Martha (Patsy), He had one child, Elizabeth, with Catherine, twins with Mary who all died shortly after birth, and seven children with Martha. Catherine and Mary were sisters and first cousins to Martha. Martha's children were: Samuel Merritt, John Milton, George, Catherine, Darius Layton, William A., Celia Ann and Mary. His known descendants are residing in the states of KY, IL, MO, KS, NE, ID, OK, WI, TX, FL, WA, AZ, and CA (and probably elsewhere). John Milton was my second great Grandfather.

Other Surnames in my family tree are: WEST / EDWARDS / WILCOX / PEYTON / HARTER / HOFFMAN / DICK /UGLOW / LUTTRELL

The WEST family in my tree begins with Joseph West and Gemima Peyton West. We have not been able to determine the ancestors of Joseph West. The date of his birth is not certain but should be about 1740 - 1750.

The HOFFMAN family of Cokesbury, NJ settled in New Jersey about 1707 as a result of their ship being blown off course from a New York port to Philadelphia. In their cross land trek to reach their original destination they decided to settle in a valley in New Jersey which came to be known as German Valley. I am interested in more information on this family and have published on this page the Genealogy report of the information I already have. It is missing many dates but locations in NJ are Fairmont, Somerville, Gladstone, and Morristown. Other sites of descendants are in MI, MO and IL.
Other Surnames are: APGAR / PHILHOWER / BUNN / CANADAY / DUNLAP

The LUTTRELL family traces back to Richard Luttrell, SR. in Cornwall, England, then in this country to Lewis Luttrell, b 1808 in VA. His son Archibald married first, Louisa Kerns, and second, Kate UGLOW, the latter in Chambersburg, PA and then migrated to MO through IN. Members of that family later moved to MI. Archibald and Kate settled in Monroe Co., MO in 1871 and are buried there in Union Township's Mt. Zion Methodist church Cemetery.
