I could not find a gravesite for Henry Marion Duncan at Red Hill Cemetery in Guntersville, Alabama, but there were some ODEN families buried there. There are several Red Hill Cemeteries throughout surrounding counties. This needs verifying.

AUNT OLA: Well, I say this much -- he raised a good bunch of younguns.
UNCLE TROY: He tore 'em up.
AUNT OLA: I don't reckon any of 'em will lie to you, or steal, or cheat you, and such as that.
UNCLE TROY: He raised all of 'em. There was only one mean 'un in the bunch.
ME: Who? You? (laughing) I was only teasing, Uncle Troy.
AUNT OLA: He might 'uve been a-talkin' about me a-bein' mean.

AUNT OLA: Yeah. You can look at them little baby pictures and tell that.

Dessie Duncan went to visit Ben Duncan when a child. Went in horse and buggy. Winter time. Spent the night. Big snow on the next morning. Wind blew hard. Trees down across the road. Don't think we got to go home that day. Had to turn around and go back. Remember they had a pet pigeon. I remember petting the pigeon.

Notes for L
Notes from Interview with Troy E. Duncan:

Question: Did your mother do much of the disciplining?

ANSWER: I know nothing about it, cause Mama was sick from the time I got big enough to remember her till she died. See, she died when I was about 15. And from the time I got big enough to know Mama, she was sick. That's all I can remember about Mama, of her being sick. She had cancer.

QUESTION: Did your mama and daddy ever talk about how they met?

ANSWER: AUNT OLA -- No, sir! If they did they talked about it to theirselves!

UNCLE TROY: Papa lived over there in at Warrenton, in the Big Spring Valley. But now, where Mama come from, nobody knows. Aunt Lela lived in Chattanooga. Somewhere around Chattanooga, up there, my grandmother's buried in Chattanooga.

ME: Which grandmother?

AUNT OLA: Mama's Mama.

ME: What was her name?

AUNT OLA: Theodosia . . . Kilgore. And the first time she married, she married a Owens. She married a Gillihan the next time, and then she married a Holcomb. And then she died. There's Mama's half brothers, Uncle Andrew, Uncle William and Aunt Virgie.

9. TINSIE CLEMENTINE3 DUNCAN (HENRY WALSTON2, JANE1) was born May 1882 in Alabama. She married (1) DAVE BROOKS Abt. 1901 in Cullman County, Alabama. She married (2) MAC MCLYNCH Abt. 1906 in Alabama. He died Abt. 1907.

Notes for T
Disappeared after she dropped off her daughter Essie at Engram Benjamin Duncan's house. She was driving a horse and buggy (or wagon) and Papa said Tinsie told "Ben" (her brother) to take care of Essie. That's the last anyone ever heard of Tinsie. Papa (Franklin Benjamin Duncan, believes she died somewhere of natural causes or met with foul play. "Otherwise," he said, "Tinsie would have been back for Essie." This must have happened after 1906, because I have a picture of Tinsie and Essie with Henry Duncan, Ben Duncan, Mac McLynch, Sally Duncan Brady, and (then children) Alice Duncan and Ola Frances Duncan (Duke). Family members have said the picture was taken in 1906 and this seems right since Ola was born in 1904 and looks to be about 2 years old in the picture.

Child of T
34. i.   ESSIE4 BROOKS, b. 20 June 1902, Alabama; d. 25 March 1982, Blount County, Alabama.
