Notes for J
OHN SUTTON:
John and his wife were members of the Episcopal Church at Gunntown in what was then known as the settlement of Salem Bridge (now Naugatuck, CT). The Town of Oxford lists his age at death as 30 years, his tombstone at Gunntown indicates he was 39 years, and the Gunntown Episcopal Church records indicate he died in his 38th year.

His parentage is unknown as yet, but one candidate is George Sutton who was born 1743 in New Haven and married Hannah Peck in 1766.

Other Sutton families in the area include: William Sutton and his wife, Phebe Baldwin, of Cheshire, CT; Henry Sutton of Watertown, CT (presumed to be the Harry Sutton of Oxford who died in 1838 at the age of 80 as mentioned in Orcutt's "History of Derby"); Isaac Sutton of Waterbury, CT who died 22 Mar 1840 age 86 and was associated with Saint John's Episcopal Church in Waterbury.

There may also be a connection with the family of Seth Sutton who came from Scituate, MA and settled in Hebron, Tolland, CT. The family of Seth Sutton and his sons, John and David, were associated with the Episcopal Church in Hebron.
