I'm Searching for members of James and Patricia Smith's families in the Mercer/Wyoming/Tazewell/Russell/ Franklin/McDowell County areas of VA/WV. Please email me if you want to chat about the families. JAMES is the son of Elmer James and Mildred Louise (Bailey) Smith of Beartown (Barker's Ridge, Wyoming County) WV. He graduated from Herndon High School in 1963. (BAILEY, MILLS, SMITH, LILLY, WHITE are some his line).
PATRICIA (Patty) is the daughter of William (Bill) and Helen (Huffman) Spicer of McComas(Mercer County), WV. She graduated from Bramwell High School in 1963.(SPICER, HARMON, ROBINSON, HUFFMAN, STEVENS/STEPHENS, CRAWFORD, BAILEY are some of her line.)
James and Patricia married August 27, 1964 and have four children. Karen(Canton, GA),Tammy (Walkerton, VA), Sheri(Laurel, MD), and Christopher(Taneytown, MD). Eight beautiful grandchildren (Andrew and Jason (19 years old)), Katlyn, Scott, Allie, Amber, Cassie and Daniel our newest additions who range from 1 - 7 years old.
James was in the Air Force for 22 years. Patty worked Civil Service positions and the family traveled the world during those years. Tours in Hawaii (7 years), Italy (2 years), Florida, Nebraska, Ohio, California, and Mississippi. In 1985 the family retired from the Air Force and moved to Pasadena, Maryland area where Patty and Jim worked as Software and Sytems Engineers as Department of Defense Contractors. In 2003 we retired and moved to Walkerton, VA.
We own James father's homeplace at Beartown and return to WV as often as possible and rekindle our roots there. Its like the old saying "you can take the boy out the country but you can't take the country out of the boy." We're proud of our WV heritage.
The data you find on these pages are a labor of love by me (Patty). I started my quest in genealogy about 6 years ago looking into my Spicer line. I started the Stevens line in rememberance of my grandmother Cora Mae (Stevens) Huffman who raised me when my mother died in 1957. I've made wonderful progress using the internet and local books written on the southern WV region. I've met many "new" cousins (via email) and enjoy knowing them. For my children I'm now continuing with my husbands side of the family and have recently decided to incorporate his line on my page.

Mr. & Mrs Addison Milam and family. Laura Milam Lusk married Floyd Lusk later Alvis Williams. Martilda Milam White married John White. Perry Allen Milam married Lillie White. Perry Allen is great grandfather to James B. Smith (husband of Patty). This family were pioneers to the Barkers Ridge District of Wyoming Co. in the mid 1800s.
