Byrd Walker was born somewhere in Virginia to unknown parents on August 1, 1811. Sometime about 1831 he married Francis B. Short in Virginia. They were farmers and had nine children: Nancy, William, Woodson Alexander, George, James B., John, Newton, Martha, Sarah. In 1840 Byrd was in Giles Co., VA and by about 1842, the Walker family had migrated into Tennessee. By 1850, they were settled in the seventh district of Rhea Co., Tennessee. After farming for ten years in Rhea Co., Byrd moved his family to Bledsoe Co., TN in 1860 where he continued to farm until his death on December 18, 1877. Francis died almost 3 years earlier. His burial place is unknown. |
