Introduction
The Ladd/Crew Families
The Ladd and Crew family of Virginia both started off in Charles City Co. after their arrival from England. The majority of the family during the late 1600s and 1700s were Quakers.
The intermarriage of the Ladd, Crew, Ellyson, Stanleys and other Quaker families was not surprising as they were usually limited in their choices to families within the local meetings who had children of marriageable age.
My interest in both families is from their arrival in the middle 1600s to the late 1700s as that was when my David Ladd married his first wife whose last name was Crew. I have been unable to find any records of this women except in The Ladd Family by Warren Ladd, and as a result I am still unsure as to where my relationship into the Crew family is. I am descended from their oldest daughter, Elvira Ladd.
Rather than attempt to build a story, I have recorded all the records I could find on each person. I have tried to list all primary records that I could locate such as the Quaker records and County records in Charles City and other areas of eastern Virginia. While I have tried my best to research and analyze all my information for accuracy, some of my conclusions are a "best guess" and will change as more information appears. I would be happy to correspond with anyone who wants to complain or share information.
This is my personal research and is as accurate as I can make it!! Please do not interpret it as "OFFICIAL". It is my "best guess". All corrections and additions welcome. Please send your source for corrections and I will incorporate them.
