AMBROSE SMITH my 5th great grand father, and the 9th generation of Smith's,was born Abt. 1720/1740 birth place could be in England. However he has now been found living in Spotsylvania County, Virginia and though property transfers and land sales and his Will and with the 1810 census with his son JOHN REZIN SMITH in Spotsylvania County at the same time and connecting property's.It is now known AMBROSE SMITH'S wife was a ISABELLA and a second wife named JEMIMAH, maiden names are unknown. Children were JOHN REZIN, WILLIAM, AMBROSE, GEORGE,JAMES, ELEANOR, ISABELLA, SARAH, FRANCES,and ELIZABETH SMITH. JOHN REZIN SMITH born 21 March 1765 in Virginia and married LUCY CHEWNING, daughter to SAMUEL and NANCY CHEWNING bef. 1795 There were 8 children to this marridge of JOHN REZIN and LUCY, 6 of which were born in Virginia. In 1811 and removed to Greensberg, Green Co., Kentucky in 1811.JOHN REZIN SMITH died on 15 March, 1839 in Green county, Kentucky and is buried in the "JOHN REZIN SMITH" cemetery on what was their land and LUCY died on 28 May, 1863 and she is buired along side her husband. ABELARD TEMPLE SMITH, and my 3rd great grand father and the oldest son to JOHN REZIN and LUCY SMITH born on the 25 Nov 1799 married a LUCY ANN WATKINS on 12 Dec.1821 in Kentucky. In 1833 he obtained a medical degree, and removed to Illinois along with LUCY and 5 of their children setteling in Meredosia, Morgan County Illinois. In 1836 he and family removed to property purchased by his father though a brother WHITFIELD J. SMITH in 1836 in Chambersburg, Pike County, Illinois. 3 more children were born in Illinois. ABELARD died on 11 March 1846 and is buried in the Chambersburg cemetery. LUCY ANN died on 07 Jan. 1880 and is buried in the Chambersburg, Pike County, Illinois cemetery. WILLIAM GRAY SMITH who was born on 11 Jan. 1823 and a son to ABELARD TEMPLE and LUCY ANN and my 2nd. great grand father. WILLIAM GRAY married TEMPERANCE MASON 24 July 1854 WILLIAM GRAY and son's farmed the land and he was killed by lighting in 1873 leaving his wife TEMPERANCE MASON SMITH and family to continue farming the land. They both are buried in the Chambersburg cemetery. CHARLES OSCAR SMITH, born 01 April 1857, the son and second born to WILLIAM GRAY and TEMPERANCE MASON, and my great grand father. He married SARAH HELEN HAM in 1877 and a son WILLIAM REGINALD was born in 1878. CHARLES OSCAR and family is listed on the Brown County census of 1880 on property located southwest of Versailles, Brown County, Illinois. CHARLES OSCAR died on the 17 March 1945 and is buried in the Versailles West Cemetery Versailles, Brown County, Illinois. SARAH HELLEN, his wife died on 13 March 1926 and is buried next to her husband. . WILLIAM REGINALD SMITH was the first born to CHARLES and SARAH HELEN on 11 Sept. 1878 and my grand father. WILLIAM REGINALD married ALTA ZERALDA HILL, born 06 April 1881 ON 25 April 1897 and my father CARL RODNEY was born in 1898 and a daughter HELEN TEMPERANCE SMITH, born 12 Sept. 1907. WILLIAM REGINALD died on 14 March 1952 and is buried in the Versailles West Cemetery in Versailles, Brown County, Illinois. ALTA ZERALDA died on 28 May 1960 also at the daughters in Peoria, Illinois and is buried along side her husband. CARL RODNEY SMITH born 29 Nov. 1898 married MARY ANN BRIDGEMAN born 15 April 1900 and 2 children, WILLIAM BURTON in 1924 and RODNEY CARL in 1934. WILLIAM BURTON died at the age of 8 years old in 1932 and is buried in the Versailles West Cemetery, Versailles, Brown County, Illinois. CARL RODNEY died on 26th of May 1945 and is buried in the Mound Grove Cemetery in Kankakee, Kankakee county, Illinois, Mother died on 15 Oct. 1982 and is buried along side her beloved husband. RODNEY CARL SMITH was born 3 Aug. 1934 married ERMA FAYE TALLENT 5 Oct. 1956. 3 children, STEVEN CARL 1958, GREGORY ALLEN 1960 and WILLIAM RUSSELL 1965 and 4 grand daughters, ANITA 1982, ALYSSA 1986, SHELBY 1990, KRISTIN 1994.
