Henry Slade came from England before 1700 and settled on the east side of the Pungo River at the mouth of a creek, since called Slade’s Creek in what later became Hyde County, North Carolina. Many of Henry's descendants still reside in Eastern North Carolina.
Jeremiah Slade, b 1775, gr-gr-grandson of the immigrant Henry, served as a Brigadier General in War of 1812.He owned large tracts ofland in Martin County, on which his Slade descendants are still farming today.
Thomas Bog Slade, son of Jeremiah, migrated to Jones Co, Georgia where he founded Clinton Female Academy, which later became Wesleyan Female Academy and is now Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia.
Several Slade descendants are currently researching this branch. Please contact us for more information about these findings.
Some researchers suspect that Samuel Slade of Cheraw, SC descends from the branch of Henry Slade of Hyde County, North Carolina.Recent DNA tests have confirmed that these two branches do, in fact, have a common ancestor. To see results of DNA study click here.
