He married (2) ELIZABETH HERR286 April 19, 1854, daughter of ADAM HERR and ELIZABETH HERR. She was born July 16, 1816 in Strasburg, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, and died July 23, 1875.

He was a dry goods merchant in Philadelphia for many years. At the beginning of the Civil War he bought up large quantities of mourning goods. As a result of the War, there was a great demand for these goods, and while,other stores were short, he sold great quantities. When he retired he bought land and built a large residence in Chatham, Chester County, Pa.
