William Rankin came to Illinois from Cynthiana, Kt with his family in the early 1800's. His son Augustus came with them and married Elizabeth Primm, had a son Daniel, who married a Primm, had a son John WT Rankin, who had a son Hubert Rankin, who had a son George Hubert Rankin and then of course me. I have all the information from Augustus and all of the families since, including the Primms, but cannot trace William back from Logan County. He may have come into Belleville first, since that is where most of the Primms were and Augustus married one of them. William may have been William Scott Rankin. If this is the case, I know his background, James, then William, both born in Northern Ireland. I have a picture of Scott Rankin, that is why I think it could be William Scott Rankin, my data from my ancestor, John WT and his brother Ode Rankin both only wrote his name was William Rankin.

AVID RANKIN:

Dear Jo and others,

We have found the family of John Roberts of Henry County Kentucky.

RootsWeb World Connect David Rankin - Boydstree:

The entry of Septimas Rankin was researched by Malle Beckett, she gave her source as the Rankin Family Bible in the home of James Rankin in Gratz, Kentucky. Malle turned over all of her Rankin Research to Carrie Baugh who has tried to continue the work of Malle.

"David Rankin married Nancy Roberts, daughter of John and Catherine Shackelford Roberts, May 12, 1804 in Franklin County, Kentucky."

David and Nancy Roberts Rankin moved to Harrison County, Kentucky; son Septimus and Willis were born there. Septimus was born March 14, 1805 and Willis was born 1807; after the birth of Willis David and Nancy Roberts Rankin moved to Henry County, Kentucky; sons
David, John and Paschal Hickman Rankin were born in Henry County, Kentucky. Paschal Hickman Rankin was born in 1813 in Henry County, Kentucky, his father David died either 1813 or 1814 in the War of 1812 in Tennessee. Pashcal Hickman died the same year at River Raison, He was the son of Pastor William and Elizabeth Shackelford Hickman of Franklin County, Kentucky.David and Nancy Roberts Rankin are not on the list of couples married at the Forks of the Elkhorn Baptist Church and there is no indication I have found of who married them.

Willis Rankin returned to Harrison County, Kentucky and married Nancy Reed Ashby they had nine children Alcy was born 1842. No one has found the families of David and John. David Rankin is listed on the 1810 Census of Henry County, Kentucky.

Documents found by John Franklin Vallentine had led us to believe Nancy Roberts Rankin and John Roberts were brother and sister, compelling but not proof. I think I have found that proof.

ANCY ROBERTS:

These are the known children of John and Catherine Shackelford Roberts

John Roberts also listed on tax records twice as John B. Roberts and once as John Baker Roberts Married Nancy Baker. Hugh Baker gave oath that John Roberts, the father of, John Roberts had given his consent for the marriage to Nancy Baker. The Baker middle name may
be for Carey Baker the wife of Roger Shackelford Sr. of Halifax County, Virginia and she may their daughter. I have not found a Catherine in any Shackelford/Shackleford family which leads me to believe she used her middle name. Carrie Baugh posted an entry on GenForum
looking for John Roberts married to Catherine Shackelford in 1998 and no one has replied. John Franklin Vallentine said he saw no reason to doubt Malle Beckett or her source, there would be no reason for the Rankin Family Bible to have an entry like this if it were not true.

Elsey Roberts married John Green, Elsey is actually Alcey/Alcy

Richard Johnson a Green Family Researcher: Green Family Researcher from Boone County, Missouri were able to track John Green back to
Henry County, Kentucky and his marriage to Elsey Roberts. Elsey is lised in Census and other records as Flora Alicey Green, those records show that she was born in 1792. John Roberts, gave oath, that John Roberts, father of Elsey, had given his consent for the marriage to John Green.

Eddy Roberts married William Roberts. Eddy Roberts was born in about 1794 she married William Roberts in Henry County, Kentucky 25 December 1817. John Green brother-in-law was Bondsman on the marriage license. This would make her the sister of Alcey.

"Know all men by those present that we William Roberts and John Green are held afirmly bound unto the Commonwealth of Kentucky in the sum of fifty pounds the payment whereof made and firmly in the manor we bind ourselves and heirs signed and sealed by us this 14th day
of June 1817. The condition of this obligation is such that wherein a marriage is about to be solemized between the said Wm Roberts and Eddy Roberts daughter of John Roberts of this County if therefore it shall (shall is underlined)always app'? that s_ow? is no just cause to
obstruct said marriage then this above obligation to be void else to remain in full force and (can not figure out the spelling of this last word)"
This is signed by William Robeards and John Green "You are directed to issue license to Wm Roberts to marry my daughter Eddy.
Witness my hand and seal this 14th day of June 1817. This Testa? another word unreadable (followed by) Signatures John Robeards
Tomas Whit/White I have not changed any of the spelling of any names in this letter, were they Robeards or Roberts is this why we can not find John Roberts was his name Robeards. Why are both Wm and John Spelled Roberts in both letters but both sign their names Robeards.
There is no X in their signatures.

A will of John Roberts found in Probate Records in Illinois named a daughter Eda but John Roberts son of James and Lucy died in Henry County, Kentucky before 1839 when reference is made in the deeds to the 100 a. of his widow Cathy (Henry Co. Deeds, 18:353.(Roberts-Orme)[Darlene McGuire had insisted Eda was a daughter of John and Catherine Lovingood Roberts but they were not married until 1800].

Richard Roberts Richard Roberts married Ann Roberts Moore, widow of Thomas Moore Ann Roberts Moore, daughter of James and Lucy Roberts, was married to Thomas Moore; when He died James and William Roberts were Surities in the Administration of the Estate
of Thomas Moore. I think it was this William who married Eddy Roberts and that he was a son of James and Lucy Roberts, probably the oldest son and did not live in Henry County, Kentucky with his family, that is why he does not show up on Taxlists or records.

In a phone conversation with Darlene McGuire she told me she had made a mistake about the Eddy Roberts of Henry County, Kentucky and it had to do with dates, she switched subjects and it was not until we were off the phone that I realized that I had not asked; what about
the dates? What I do know is that a Eda and William Roberts named their first born son Herman Lovingood Roberts after the father of Catherine Lovingood. BUT she was not the same Eddy Roberts who married William Roberts in Henry County, Kentucky in 1809 and
again it had to do with dates but what dates birth, marriage, date of birth of Herman Lovingood Roberts, I do not know?I had intended to call back but I knew Darlene was not feeling well, thought I would wait a few days; 3 days after our conversation I received an e-mail from
Darlene's daughter informing me of the death of her mother.

The Eda Roberts and William Roberts Darlene was researching had relatives, Fountains and Brites in Nelson County, Kentucky.

I hope I have not confused anyone: I did not intend to make this so long and plan to do this in a more detailed manner which I will send later. To some this may be redundent but to make sence of all of this I think it is required. Any comments, suggestions or imput will be appreciated. Has anyone researched Robeards and is it worthwhile.
