The material on the Moncrief line was furnished along with other fine research on all phases of the Blackburns by a descendant, Miss Madolin Clough, of Kansas City, Missouri.

She stated that Caleb and Jane Moncrief are buried in Jennings County, Indiana where Caleb was a Baptist Minister. It appears that the family of William Francis who had lived in Scott County, Ky. must have goen with them. Jane Blackburn Moncrief's brother, Thomas R. Blackburn, went to Jennings Co., Indiana, where he married Elizabeth Francis, daughter of this family, and took her back to his farm on Clark's Creek, Grant County, Ky.

Caleb and Jane sold a home in Harrison County, Ky. in 1831.

We feel that Caleb was the son of Maxa Moncrief whose estate settlement is dated June 10, 1801 is found in Nicholas County, Ky. Wills 1800-1816 was located. Caleb Moncried left all property real and personal to his son Maxey, because of the care he had taken of him and his wife in their last years. The biography of his son, John Moncrief stated that the Moncriefs had gone to Effingham County, Illinois about 1854. They were back in Indiana in 1867 when he made his will and died there in 1870. caleb helped to organize two Baptisit Churches in Jennings County, Butlerville and Branches Creek.

Madolin Clough included another statement which throws light on the relationships. "I think further evidence that our relationship is with this branch of the Blackburns is that William Davis signed for security on Caleb and Jane Blackburn's marriage bond and he signed a deed for Jenny Blackburn in Harrison County, Ky. in 1813."

This William Davis was a neighbor of the Caleb Moncriefs and the William Francis families in Harrison County, Ky. William Davis had married Sarah Blackburn, a daughter of James and Jane Rankin Blackburn, and Thomas Blackburn, their son married the daughter of William Francis.

Sarah H. Blackburn was born in North Carolina, March 23, 1789, she was married to William Davis February 10, 1807 in Harrison County, Kentucky. Nothing is known of William Davis except his name. He died and Sarah married Rev. Robert Long. To Sarah and William Davis were born several sons in the State of Kentucky; James B. born April 23, 1808, Robert, born April 8, 1810 and John born July 11, 1815. Something happened to William between the years 1815 and 1822 for Sarah H. Blackburn Davis was married to Rev. Robert Long probably in 1822. To them the following children were born, a son, William K., in the year 1823 and a daughter, Elizabeth Jane in the year 1825, then another son, Samuel Davis Long, on May 22, 1828 in the State of Indiana. It was in the State of Indiana that the Longs met a family by the name of Samson Smith. They were to meet later in the State of Iowa.

The Longs started migrating west sometime during the year 1829, and in the state of Illinois twin daughters were born to them on November 21, 1830. They named them Mary Armilda and Sarah Alexander. They gave the twins, as well as their oldest daughter nicknames which were Polly and Sally for the twins and Betsy for the oldest daughter. We next find the Long family in the State of Iowa, Jefferson County, in the year 1840 in Polk Township. Sarah H. Long passed away May 20, 1855 in Jefferson County and her internment was in the Smith Branch Cemetery, which is section six of Locust Grove Township in Jefferson County. Robert Long passed away six years before on December 12, 1850 and he is buried in the same cemetery. The family lived in or around Blandensville, McDonough County, Illinois, Macomb is the county seat.
