Found in the 1850 Census of Cocke County, Tennessee at #596-771. Larkin 50 from South Carolina, Martha 43 from Virginia. Isaac 22 born in Kentucky, Sarah 20, Alex 18, Jessee 16, Joseph 14, Martha 12, Susannah 9, Mary J. 7, Lucinda 5, and Mahala 3. All children born after Isaac were born in Tennessee. The Folwer family came to Tennessee around 1829.

Martha Fowler a widow is living with her son Alexander Fowler in the 1880 Cocke County Census, District 4, page 20. She was from Virginia as were her parents. Some believe she was an Inman.

2. ISAAC3 FOWLER (LARKIN2, ISAAC1) was born October 08, 1827 in Kentucky, and died May 10, 1903 in Cocke County, TN. He married (1) NANCY ANN REAMS December 15, 1852 in Greene County, Tennessee, daughter of JOHN REAMS and PENINA RIPPETOE. She was born 1834 in Jefferson County, TN, and died March 09, 1868 in Cocke County, TN. He married (2) MARGARET INMAN September 06, 1869 in Cocke County, Tennessee. She was born February 15, 1845, and died August 02, 1906 in Cocke County, Tennessee.

Notes for ISAAC FOWLER:
Isaac Fowler almost perished while serving in the Civil War. He was rescued by Rhoda Darthula Calfee, later Samples. Isaac Fowler became a widower shortly following the Civil War. He later remarried and had an addtional family. As family stories were told through the years, the property that he had farmed and known as his own had come from the Reams/Rippetoe families - the families of his first wife Nancy Reams Fowler. However, after her death and his remarriage, he deeded this property to his second wife who left the entire property to her children. There were hard feelings in the Fowler family for years, causing many people to say for years, those are the "other Fowlers" even though they had the same Fowler blood and knew it.

The semi-ironic part of it today is that most of the families have inter mixed over the last hundred years or so, that many of the "other Fowlers" have by blood now become "our Fowlers" through other lines. Times were no doubt difficult for a widow in those days, and it is more difficult to judge the past according to our standards. Regardless what happened a century ago, as Hazel Smith told Dale Snapp when given a copy of documents showing who all her kin was, Dale said, "Now, there might be someone in there you don't wish to claim as kin," and she responded, "I am 83 three years old, and I'll take 'em all."

She married WILLIAM CALFEE in Cocke County, Tennessee, son of JAMES CALFEE and CHARITY MURRAY. He was born April 22, 1809 in KY, and died June 20, 1872 in Cocke County, TN.

William Calfee was listed in the 1850 Census of Cocke County, Tennessee #286-727. He was born in Kentucky according to the census, and his wife Sarah 38, was born in Tennessee. He was a farmer owning land valued at $1,400.00 at that time. His children were listed as being all born in Tennessee. The children listed were as follows: James 17, Isaac 15, Seth (twin) 12, William (twin) 12, John 9, Sarah 6, Henry Clay 3.

William Calfee can be found in the Cocke County Census, District #5, Page 11 (83-83) of the 1870 Census. William calfee is not found in the 1880 Census, but his second wife and children can be found again in District 5, household #57.
