- A STORK ON THE MISSISSIPPI (8 KB)
Fictionalized story in dialect written by Myra Snelson Pena.
This incident she found in Mathias Snelson's Civil War Record intrigued her so much, it inspired this story. Orange Shaul was real, a neighbor, and fellow soldier. She made up the particulars, since she knows nothing of the truth. She had not known her grandmother, Sarah Jane, was Mathias' second wife until she read the CV Record. In fact, She knew nothing of Mathias until she inherited the genealogy papers when her mother died in 1990.
