Notes for JOHN SMITH:
In 1796, James Smith of Wilkes County, GA, deeded property in Oglethorpe County, GA, to "his son John Smith and son-in-law William Barron" (Deed Book A, p. 335). This same property was mentioned in the 1797 will of James Smith in Wilkes County to be given to his son, John, and daughter, Patty Barron. The 1801 returns for the James Smith estate list money paid to William Barron, for his wife's legacy.
John (see above), followed William's family to Hancock, then Putnam Counties, GA, in the early 1800s.
John Smith bought Prudence Barron's land just two after the probate of her estate in Wilkes Co., GA (1798).
9 Jan 1798, Samuel Barron to John Smith, both of Wilkes Co., for $200, 100 acres, part of tract granted to Prudence Barron on Little River waters, on north side of said land, laying in an exact square, adj. north by Mills & Porter, east by Porter, south & southwest by Brooks, west by Lipham.(signed) Samuel Barron.wit:Wm. Triplett, A. Lipham, J.P.Recorded 18 Jul 1799.

Bazzell/Basil Smith is the son of the John Smith who married Melinda's sister, Nancy Simmons but of the first wife for John Smith named Prudence Barron, daughter of William Barron and Prudence Davis of Wilkes Co., GA.The Smith family lines are being pretty well tracked now by several of the Smith cousins/researchers who have been in contact with me.
