William H. Simmons was buried somewhere around the old John Ellzey place in Pike Co., MS. William H. came to the Mississippi Territory sometime before 1828, probably much earlier than this though. Andrew Willie, son of William Jackson, son of William H. and his wife, Mary once said, "he remembered that his father said that his grandfather, William H., lived not too far from what is now the Smithburg Community in Pike County, which is not too far from Simmonsville, where Willis and Jane Goslin Simmons lived. Permelia Simmons-Duncan said that her father was the youngest son and Willis the eldest in their family and that they were brothers.

There is a discrepancy in the middle name for William H. Simmons in that one line of descendants has his middle name as Harrison, whereas another descendant's lines have it as Hillary. There are several people named with the Hillery/Hillary name as well as several with the name of Harrison. Right now until proven out, the middle name is a toss-up. Will need to find sources listing his middle name.

Notes for Mary Ann Permelia SIMMONS:
Permelia and Luke Duncan were textile workers at times, and lived in Wesson, MS, in 1883 when the big storm blew that town away, killing many people. The family later lived around McComb. Luke Duncan died and was buried in a community cemetery near Salem Church, North of Tylertown. Permelia said the Old Family Bible was blown away at Wesson.

Permelia spent her last days at Beauvoir, a home for Confederate Veterans and their widows. Luke Duncan must have been in the Confederate service for her to be entitled to this consideration. Permelia died in this home and was buried there. Beauvoir is near Biloxi, Mississippi.

Luke and Permelia were the parents of six children: their descendants are in the McComb, MS area.

Gwen Green copied all that was in the file box on this couple and mailed during July, 1999. In the military pension papers where Permelia made application, her husband was listed as N. Luther Duncan.
