Welcome Cousins and Friends
Origins and Background

The earliest known ancestor in this line of the Snead family comes from South Carolina. Maybe not originally, but until we find out who John G Snead's parents were, and where they were from, his hand written entry in the family Bible stating the fact, will do.

There were many Snead families that were living in Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee in the 1700's. Perhaps the Snead family traveled down from those regions. The Snead family may also have been part of the earlier settlers from General Oglethorpe's colonization program, perhaps as debtors from England, whose only way of surviving was coming to America.Research is still ongoing into the actual origins of how the Snead family came to Georgia.

The family settled and lived in the vicinity of Gwinnett and DeKalb (pronounced dekab) county areas in the 1830's.

The majority of John G Snead's descendants and their immediate families would remain in the area until the mid twentieth century.
