Notes for John Bunyan McMath: Source: [www.ancestry.com], World War I Draft Registration Cards, 1917-1918 J.B. registered for the draft on June 5, 1917 in Falls Co., TX. He resided in Marlin, Falls Co., TX. He was employed as a fireman by the fire station in Marlin, Falls Co., TX.
After moving to Dallas, TX in 1917, John became construction foreman for Borich Sign Company, one of the earliest sign companies in the country. He went with the Texlite Company in 1923. A year later Texliet was bought out by another company, and he stayed on as the company's treasurer and chief engineer. In 1946, he and a man named Axilrod opened their own company, which was called the McAx Sign Company. About 1963, John sold out and retired. One of his major accomplishments was to direct the construction of the Flying Red Horse atop the Mobil Building in downtown Dallas, a building which was the tallest building in Dallas at the time and is now a National Historic Landmark.
