Phillip Schott - - - Shutt

"Phillip Schott who was born about 1732, came from Zuie Bruchen, Germany to America, about the year 1750.
He was accompanied by a young lady named - ? - Huss. As they were poor and had no money to pay for their passage their services were sold at auction to the person who would pay their passage for the shortest term of service.
They both served in that capacity three years and shortly after that they were married. They went to Ft. Duquesne, where Pittsburgh now stands, and took up land. But owing to Indian troubles, they buried their land titles and fled under military escort to Boonsboro, Maryland. He proposed to return to his land but never did so.
Their family consisted of ten children. Two of the boys died when they were yet small and were buried near what is now Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

John - - was born near Boonsboro, MD, and died in Stark County, Ohio.
Peter - - was born at Boonsboro, MD, and died near Shanesville, Ohio, September 12, 1823.
Phillip - - was born at Boonsboro, MD, and died at Winesburg, Ohio, 1848.
George - - was born at Boonsboro, MD, and died at Winesburg, Ohio, 1847.
Henry - - was born near Boonsboro, MD, and died at Danville, VA, 1825.
Adam - - was born at Boonsboro, MD, and died in Frederick County, Maryland, in 1846.
Catherine - - was born and died near Boonsboro, MD.

Jacob, the eldest son, served a full apprenticeship at the carpenter trade in Hagerstown, Maryland; then went to Baltimore, where he died at an advanced age.
John was apprenticed to a carpenter named Cribbs who was cruel to him. He ran away to a man who had married his mother's sister and lived in western Pennsylvania, but later came back to Baltimore; later to Sharpsburg, Maryland. Finally, he moved to a farm seven miles south of Canton, Ohio, where he died at age 97 years.
Peter, was apprenticed to a coppersmith at Frederick City, Maryland. He opened a shop on the farm of his two younger brothers and later settled on a farm near there. In 1812, he moved on a farm southwest of Shanesville, Ohio, where he died September 12, 1823.
Phillip and George bought the homestead. They sold it in 1836, and moved to near Winesburg, Ohio. Here they bought a farm together and lived on it until they both died.
Henry finished an apprenticeship at the hatters trade in Shepherdstown, Virginia, and then moved to Danville, Virginia, where he died in 1825.
Adam learned the coppersmith trade of his brother, Peter. After that, he settled on a farm in Frederick County, Maryland, where he died about 1846.
Catherine, the youngest child and only daughter, was married to a man by the name of Myers about 1800.
The remains of Phillip Schott, wife and daughter lie in the cemetery at the Shenk Church near Boonsboro, Maryland.
