| I am researching the families of my grandmother, Alma Mathilda Karlson and my grandfather, Erik Alfred Soderlund, both from the Åland Islands, Finland. Both immigrated to Chicago from Åland (Erik 1893 and Alma 1905). I have been able to trace all their lines back to the late 1700's, with some going back as far as the late 1600's--the beginning of the church record keeping. I've gotten information on ancestors in one line going back to the late 1400's. Much of my information on their ancestors came from the church records in Åland kept before 1895. These were microfilmed by the Mormon Church in the early 1950's. Transcription of that information to the HISKI database by the Finnish Genealogy Society started in the early 1990's, and is still ongoing. I've also received a lot of information from relatives who researched the records in Åland directly. Information on my grandparent's family members since their immigration has come from various sources. If anyone has any additional information or questions I'd like to hear from you. |
