* The Rutherford Family of Waldon's Ridge, Tennessee*

Updated August 20, 2005

Waldon's Ridge, or Signal Mountain, Hamilton County, Tennessee..... That is where my study of our family genealogy began 8 years ago. My mother, her siblings, all grew up there in an area affectionately called "The Holler". This was originaly off of named Smokey Road, and later re-named Timesville Road, on this mountain. Her mother was Irene Rutherford. Irene's Mother was Mary Ann Kilgore, who married Henry Rutherford.

Only recently did we learn who Henry Rutherford's father was: His father was Joseph Rutherford,b. abt. 1819 in possibly Arkansas. Joseph was married to a Cherokee woman named Susannah Wright, born abt. 1837, in Polk Co.. Tn. Their known children were Dick Rutherford, Rachel Rutherford, Columbus Rutherford, Lorena Rutherford, America Rutherford, and Missouri Rutherford. All chiildren were born between 1865-1888, and all believed to be born on Signal Mtn., Tn.

I am especially interested in knowing who were the parents of Joseph Rutherford, and , names of his siblings. Also, the same for his wife Susannah Wright. It is possible, that Susannah Wright married after the death of her husband Joseph Rutherford, after 1890, to a Higgins. This is uncertain at this time.

Other family names associated with this Rutherford-Wright line are Simons, Kilgore, Witt, Brown, Craft, Johnson, Wiseman, Jackson, Cannon, Keener, Davenport, Moore, Dyer, Mayfield, and more.

I welcome all inquires and would enjoy sharing information on any of these Rutherford or other allied families.

Thank you for your interest.
