of widow 1855, Mercer Co., PA; residence of widow 1878, Sharpsville, Mercer
Co., PA; maiden name of widow, Rachel McCord; marriage of widow & soldier,
4-1-1816 in Mercer Co., PA; death of widow, 7-4-1886, Sharpsville, PA.

Thomas Gill is listed in the Mercer County History in 1824 as a Pymatuning Township supervisor.

From information furnished by Howard McCord:

Thomas Gill was born in 1793 in Washington County, Pennsylvania, and came to Pymatuning Township, Mercer County, Pennsylvania, and settled on 200 acres of ground 2 3/4 miles north of Sharpsville in 1816.
Thomas learned the cabinet makers trade from his father-in-law, Robert McCord. In politics, he was a whig. He belonged to the Old Seceder Church of the Presbyterian faith.
In a survey, September 4, 1819, Thomas Gill and Andrew Chestnut received a warrant (C-63-281 Number 84) for 272 acres 136 purchase allowance in pursuance of actual settlement Pat. March 24, 1829, on warrant to accept March, 1829.
Thomas Gill served as a private in the War of 1812 under Captain Thomas McMillen. He was discharged at Erie, Pennsylvania, on the 11th day of February, 1814.
Thomas Gill was about 5 feet 7 1/2 inches tall, had brown curly hair, blue eyes and a fair complexion.
On the 25th day of May 1878 Rachel McCord Gill at the age of 78 years applied for and received a widows pension for her husband's service in the War of 1812.
On April 2, 1855, Rachel McCord Gill applied for and received a land warrant at the age of 55 for service of Thomas Gill in the War of 1812.

Letter dated 10/20/1959 from Martha Adams McLaughlin:
"I have an aunt (Olive), Mother's youngest sister, who will be 87 in December. She says she remembers her father telling about going to his Aunt Rachel's house when he was a kid and that she was a strict Presbyterian. She would fix buckwheat cakes for their Sunday breakfast and she would fry them Saturday evening. But that was o.k. with him and he liked to go to her house.
