James graduated from Landrum High School in 1932. Worked for 2 years at Watts Mill in Laurens, SC then the CCC in North Carolina. He enlisted in the US Navy in September 1936. He retired after 30 years serving as a Chief Warrant Offic er W-4. He married Barbara Alice Besse of Boston, Massachusetts August 6, 1944 . They had four children, Adrienne Louise b 11/23/46; Beth Anne and Jeffrey Lo ring b 3/23/49; Bonnie Lynne b 5/27/59.[Adrianne Austin.ftw]
