Notes for David Ackerman: The 1901 Census indicated the David's wife Edith was not at home on the night of the Census.
David served in WWl in France with the Royal Fusiliers (Labour Battalion). He was awarded the Victory and British War Medals. His Medal card does not indicate the theatre of War or the date he disembarked. Mum remembers that she was told by her Dad that he served in France digging and fighting in the trench's.
David's brother died in the Great War 1914/1917. His name appears on the War Memorial at Mitcham.
After his first wife died in 1942, David remarried in 1944 to Henrietta who was a dwarf. The story goes that at David’s funeral Henrietta turn up with a black eye. When asked how she got it Henrietta replied that she was looking for David’s money behind the wardrobe and it fell on her, not sure if she found any!! Family member's remembers that she turned up to the funeral wearing Brown Boots.
