James L. Sorrell III

753 Anthony Lane

Mason, Ohio 45040-1145

Jim is researching the following families: Sorrell, Stearman, Staton, Mynhier, Kendall, Terrell, Havens and Chaney in the geographical region of Bath, Menifee, Rowan, Fleming, Morgan, Pendleton and Wolfe Counties in Kentucky. Research is not restricted to the above families.

The Sorrells lived in Culpeper County Virginia during the Revolutionary War period. They were William and his four sons: James, Elisha, Richard and Thomas. Joseph is a possible fifth son. Elisha, Richard, Thomas and William (possibly the father) enlisted during the period 1777/78. Most if not all of them were initially assigned to the 10TH Virginia Regiment. Richard and Thomas died while the Continential Army wintered over at Morristown. William, after witnessing the death of son Richard, went home sick on furlough and died shortly thereafter. William also served in the French And Indian War in Col. Hackett's Regiment.

The remaining brothers James and Elisha migrated from Culpeper County Virginia through Amherst County Virginia arriving at Isles' Mill, Montgomery (now Bath) County Kentucky in about June 1810. Bath County was formed from Montgomery County in 1811. Menifee County was formed from, in part, Bath County in 1869. Descendants of James Sorrell migrated to Pendleton County Kentucky beginning in 1851 and to Butler County Ohio beginning about 1900. Descendants of Elisha Sorrell migrated to Indiana and Illinois.

The Stearmans, led by Nancy the mother along with her children Robert, Martha and Eliza migrated from Bedford County Virginia through Bath County Kentucky in 1829.

The Chaneys migrated from Virginia arriving in Morgan County Kentucky after the Civil War.

Any information would be appreciated. I am also willing to share any information I have.

Linda is researching the following surnames: Allen, Hale, Bischoff - Bishop, Neely, Steinmann, Campbell, Williams, Brennon, McClure, Wenker, Barnett, Regedanz, Forweck and Nunnery.
