I have just located the door to my Norweign half. Grandma was Martina Mortenson, born in Norway Leirjford, Stamnæs. Her father was Mortin Arntsen. With some very kind help from genealogist in Leirford, I have been able find the church records for her family. So this site will be changing to include this new found information.
Grandma came through Canada then to the US, settling in Washington State. Martina was married first to Gerhardt Gunderson of Vågan, Loefolton, Norway and second to Oluf Sorensen. The Sorensen's spent 2 years in Alaska where Martina and Oluf became naturalized.
On my Finish half, Frans Wilhelm Myllymäki and Aliina Nuraso came to America in 1899. He, along with many other Finns became miners. I first located a number of Myllymäki's in church records dating up to 1850. As Frans was born in 1876, I wasn't sure I found the right one until a cousin visited the town of Isojoki and the relatives there went through the church records. Since then, I have had the very good fortunate to tie in with other researches on the family. We have about 5,000 names of Myllmäki and Nurisalo's going back to mid 1500's.
One of the links is to a picture album. It includes some unidentified pictures. If you know who some of these are, please let me know. If you have pictures to add, please do so. This site will be changing as I add more photos. This site is an easy way to share.
I have added some links to some good sites and will be adding more.
If you have any information or if I can help anyone, please contact me. Sharing information is half of the fun.
As with any family tree, it is always a work in progress.
I am also looking for stories. I am terribly short of stories about these people.
