Source: Doomsday Book written in year 1066. Edwards descendants became the Earls of Salisbury starting with his grandson Patrick. Patricks father is
Walter-- Walters father is Edward the Sheriff,
Edward the Sheriff also known as Edward De'Everux-this compiler has traced
the name Deverux and has traced back to Edward, numerous Deverux and
spelling variations family names trace back to Edward. Edwards grandson
Patrick descendants take the last name of "South" Note acc to Doomsday
Book of 1066, Revised edition -the street Edwards home once stood is named after him-- the street is called "South St" Therefore it is possible, that the
Souths today last name is truly De Everux? Note: Edward De Everux daughter
Maud by the order of the King of England marries The 2nd Humphrey DeBohun.
The Humphrey DeBohun families are the ancestors and descendants of the
Kings and Queens of England which incl the King Henry's.
Back to Robert South who came to America in apr 1620: Robert started a
shipping company with Gregory Clements in Essex co Va, using two known ships found by this compiler, called "Bonventure" and "Mary". The shipping
co transported goods to England [mostly tobacco] and other goods to other
colonies in America incl Maryland, and Mass. This compiler finds Souths in
Lynn, Mass in 1630's.William South father of Ann who married William Croft
then married Thomas Ivory, William's daught Sarah who married a Burgess,
and William's son Thomas who married Grace Hyson in Cecil co MD. There
is also a John South there who dies is 1635-- who is unidentified. Lynn Mass
started as a plantation abt 1628, is near Boston and Watertown, Mass where
this compiler found shipping records at the Boston public Lib in the Rare Book Dept. where as the ship "Bonadventure" had brought cargo to Boston. Question
is: are the Souths in Lynn, Mass a descedant or related closely to Robert South who came to America in 1620. This compiler has not found any records
of William South of Lynn, Mass coming into America. This William South would
be abt the same age as Robert South,as William's children born around 1617s.
Robert and Mary South have one known child to this compiler,a son
Named Robert born abt 1631 who also marries a woman named Mary. On
3 oct 1664 Robert South, wife Mary, wittness the will of Francis Griggs in

This compiler has not done the research as of yet to linked
this Robert South to or thur the Earls of Salisbury, according to his claim when
he entered America claiming to be the Earl of Salisbury.

John South and Ann living along Patapseco River?
Also Funkstown, Md Washington co we find a George South who setteled
there abt 1650 who is the ancestors of Souths who went to Ky with Daniel Boone. Funkstown is less than 45 miles from the Patapseco River, poss
link between the Souths of Funkstown and Abraham who came to Md in1660.
No link has been found by this compiler to connect the Souths of NJ to
the Souths in Funkstown, Md, however this compiler has traced some of the
earlier Drake family. A Margaret Weldon Drake married Gen John South who
descends from George South of Funkstown, Md who is with Daniel Boone, and
his father JohnSouth in Boonesboro, Ky. Have found no data as to where
John South and Margaret Weldon Drake married. In tracing the Drake family,
i found that they were in New Hampshire, and grandfather(Francis Drake) of Margaret Weldon Drake came to settle in Piscataway, NJ in 1675. (source- New Brunswick in History. Margaret Drake's, father John died in Fincastle co Va. This puts Thomas South, our ancestor in Pisacatwawy,NJ same time as\
the Drake"s who mary into the John South family who descends from Funkstown, MD.
This compiler is looking for more informtion that would link the South's of NJ
to the South's of Maryland.
