Notes for P
ETER CASTETTER:
1850 Hamilton County In Census lists Peter as 62 years from PA. and wife Mary. Also listed 4 sons and 1 daughter. Was farmer in Delaware township.

Sarah listed as 25 yrs, Jacob M listed as 20, Michael listed as 18yrs, Benjamin listed as 15 yrs and Issac listed as 10 yrs.

1860 Hamilton County In. Census listed Peter as living with Jacob Castetter, died after 1860, before the 1870 - not listed in that census.

Five of Peter and Molly Castetter's children married descendants of James and Dorotha Heady. It is not known whether they were acquainted in Ohio. While the Headys moved to Jackson County, Indiana, and then to Hamilton County, the Castetters moved to Marion County, Indiana first.

Peter Castetter bought 69 acres of land in Lawrence Township., Marion County, Indiana, on Oct 15, 1821 from the Federal Government. The record of this purchase shows him as a resident of Butler County Ohio. He developed and lived on this land until 1837. He was a Justice of the Peace in Marion County so he must have been an educated man.

In 1836, he bought 160 Acres in Fall Creek Township, Hamilton Co., Indiana, for $625.00. He then sold his property in Marion County for $1000.00 to Mark Day, his wife Molly signed the deed with an X.

On October 26, 1860: Hamilton Co, IN Deed Record Jan. 3, 1860 - April 1861, p. 329. Peter Castetter sells land tract of 80 acres to Michael J. Castetter for $2500 consisting of W 1/2, NE 1/4, Sec 32, T 18N, R5E. Recorded on the same day is another 80 acres Peter sold to Jacob M. Castetter.

1862-1865: At least three of Peter's sons enlisted in the military. Michael and Daniel join Co. I, 75th Infantry; Peter B. (grandson) and Benjamin P. join the 17th Light Artillary. Washington Castetter is listed as unaccounted for when Co. I, 75th Inf. is mustered out in June 1865.

Notes for S
ARAH SNAVELY:
The information on the Snavely family and Musser family was provided by Paul Tobler. His source was primarily "Early Settlers of Old Mt. Airy, VA; by Joseph Rodney Cameron, Sr.

"Addendum to Early Settlers of Old Mount Airy", by Joseph Rodney Cameron.
323.7: Sarah Snavely
The daughter of John and Elizabeth (Musser) Snavely, Sarah married Peter Castetter on August 8, 1809 in what was then Wythe County, Virginia, probably at her home in what is now Smyth County. The couple bought no land here but moved to Marion, IN in the portion that is Hamilton County today. (Sarah did not live long, as she was dead when her father wrote his will in 1826. It is said that her husband, Peter, returned to Virginia to claim his children's inheritance from their grandfather, John Snavely.)

Mary E. and Appolona Castetter are very likely the daughters of Sarah and Peter Castetter. Mary and Appolona are in marriage records for Marion Co in 1830 or about 11 years after Peter married Molly. Catherine is the daughter of Peter and his first wife (Sarah Snavely) based on the probate record for Sarah's father which lists an inheritance for Catherine.

The book, "Marion County, IN Records Miscellanea" says that Peter Castiler, her father and guardian, reports that Catherine Ann Casteler is a legatee of John Snavely who recently died in Wythe Co, VA. Peter went to VA to get $74 willed to Catherine Ann by Snavely
