Mr. Allen, a retired farmer, died at the Lisle Marie Nursing Home on Second Street in Lexington, KY.He was a native of Harrison County, KY; and his farm was located on the Allen Pike.He was a member of the Leesburg Christian Church.Services were conducted at the Whaley Funeral Home in Cynthiana, KY by the Rev. Earl W. Sims.Burial was in the Jacksonville Cemetery.Pall bearers were his grandsons: Charles A. McDaniel, James, Jerry and Donald Allen, Joe Bruce Sparks and David Walker.

Mrs. Allen died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Irvin Etter, in Scott County after a long illness.Formerly of Floyd County, KY, she was a member of the Mt. Gilead Methodist Church and the Leesburg Ladies Aid Society
Resolution from the organization of The Leesburg Ladies Aid Society:"We have lost a beloved and faithful member, Mrs. Alvin Allen.Her example of loving service, which she gave so generously and unselfishly, will be a lasting inspiration to all of us.It is with quiet and grateful hearts we will ever remember our "Miss Mamie", whose busy hands and quiet smile will forever remain a cherished memory in this Aid Society.Therefore, be it resolved, that a copy of this memorial be placed in the minutes of the Ladies Aid Society and copy sent to the her family."Ladies Aid Society of Leesburg Church, Harrison County, KY
Funeral services were conducted at the Whaley Funeral Home in Cynthiana, KY by the Rev. Kenneth Clay.Burial was at the Jacksonville Cemetery.Pall bearers were Garland, Craig and Ernest May, Russell Shropshire, Carl Northcut and Henry Allen.Survivors include a brother, Earl May, Harrison County and a sister, Mrs. Stewart Shropshire, Bourbon County.

Notes for May Henderson Allen: She was a member of the Leesburg Christian Church where she often participated in the Joy Circle.She was a member of the Cynthiana Minus One club.In Georgetown, she was a member of the Big Springs Council No. 128, Daughters of America. With her husband, she owned and operated a dairy/tobacco farm located about 6 miles North of Georgetown, on the Glass pike.She also worked as cafeteria assistant atScott County High School in the 1950's.On Thursday, Feb. 21, 1963 at 10 A. M., May and Irvin sold their farm livestock and farm equipment and moved to Harrison Co.They purchased a smaller 29 acre tobacco farm one and one-half miles from Cynthiana on route 62, near the traffic islands at the intersection of 62 and 27.In 1981 Irvin died of a heart attack andMay moved to Cynthiana and shared a house with her sister Christine and her brother Lyman. In 1993 she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease and was admitted to the medicaid nursing facility inHarrison Memorial Hospital.She stayed there until her death in 1998. |
