Drewry and Mildred Oliver Spane, Spain came from Surry County Va.to Pitt county, N.C. in 1762. From them came Spains in Hyde County, 1785 Beaufort County, and Pamlico County N.C. There children were Frederick Augustus, Thomas, Epps, William.
I descend from was there oldest son,Frederick Augustus, went by the name of Augustin Spain, and did use the name of Austin and Augustine. Borne April 30, 1753 in Surry County,Va.(From Albemarle Church Parrish Records)
Second Generation

Frederick Augustus Married Elizabeth Lacy, dtr. of Parker Lacy of Hyde county. There children: Frederick (Fred), David, Lacy, a dtr. Millie who married James Linton.
From Clarks N.C.State Records Bk. 17, pg. 1057 shows he was in the Rev. war and was in charge of the 2nd. N.C.Reg. of Milita. After the war he went on to Hyde County N.C.where he was awarded four land grants in the Juniper Bay area, also was J.P. and tax collector.Later on got a Land grant in Sumner County, Tenn. for his time in the Rev. War.
He was a suveyor of Land in this area. Died in Craven County N.C. 1811, he was not a planter according to his estate records, he had a business of some kind.
David Spain B. 1785 married Sarah Carawan ??? not sure, land records shows it is probably right.
William, B.September 28,1763- D October 28,1841, in Pitt County, N.C. Married Nancy Chruch, Dtr. Of Issac Church. Children: Sarah B.1798, agnes B. 1799, Nancy B. 1801, Epps B. 1803,William B.1805.William enlisted in the Rev. War in March 10,1777 in place of his father, Drury, he was thirteen years old.
The only info we have on this family, Mrs Noah W. Gibson from Fountanelle, Iowa in October 8, 1925 applied for his papers in order to join the DAR.

Thomas: B. ? D. Jan. 23,1840 enlisted in the Rev. War Feb. 10,1777 until May 12,1780 ,he and William were captured at Charleston, S.C.
Thomas married Jennette Summerall, children were Polly, B.Aug. 1784, Drury B. July 2, 1790, Ruthe B. 1802 married Tammy Teal.The Teal line has been researched and is on line in Family tree Maker program.
Info. from Pension Papers. William and Thomas, both were Musicians in the war.

Third Generation:
Frederick Augustus Spain #2 is in Hyde county in the 1810 census, he was here on this island in the 1820 census.Children,listed Males-one 0-10-,two 10-16, one 18, one 16-26. Females two 0-10, one 16-26, one 26-45.
He doesn't show in the 1830 census-Mrs Fred Spain is listed. Children:Males One 10-15 two 15-20. females two 10-15,one 30-40.
Frederick died sometime between 1826-1830 and was living in Craven County at that time.
Joshua Lacy Sr. B. 1800-10 shows in the 1830 census with two males 0-5 group, he in the 20-30 age group.Two females one 10-15, wife 20-30. One of the males was Joshua Lacy Jr.
George Bentley B. 1800-10 shows in the 1830 census with one male 15-20 group he in the 20-30 group. three females one 10-15,0ne15-20 one 50-60.
Jerome Bonaparte B. 1810 married Anna Lupton doesn't show until 1840 with Males one 0-5, one 5-10, one 30-40. Females: three 0-5, two 20-30.Lived at Hobucken,N.C. and is buried here 1872. My great grandfather.
Daniel Allen B. 1806 Married Rhesa Lupton (sister to Anna) doesn't show until 1840: males one 0-5, one 20-30.Females one 0-5, one 20-30, one 70-80.Lived at Hobucken and is buried here.
William A. B. 1808 lived here but, doesn't show in the census, died in 1847, I have his estate papers.
Christana B. 1805 Married Dempsey Lupton, lived at Scranton
North Carolina.This family is researched and listed in the Lupton's of North Carolina. By gladys Holton and Shirley Edwards.
David Spain's children:
Calvin-B.1830 went to California in the gold rush and died there.
Emily, Anna-B. 1834, nothing on her.
James Potter B.1835 married Annis Spain, was killed in the log woods about 1875 and lived at Hobucken.---
