The Clawson's/Clausen's of Carroll County, Indiana migrated from Montgomery County Ohio to Carroll County via Warren and Fountain County Indiana....they migrated from Ohio with brothers, cousins and uncles families.

The first Clawson's in Carroll County, Indiana was Peter and Sarah Iford/Ifert Clawson and their 9 children with their first land purchase in Section 7 of Monroe Township (Carroll County)in May of 1833 near the towns of Radnor and Ockley. Many many of the descendents of Peter and Sarah Clawson are still residing in or around Carroll County Indiana. Many not realizing that they are descendents of this family.

I am hoping to complete my research on the descendents of Peter and Sarah Iford/Ifert Clawson in the near future, in order to compile a book for all who are interested. Even though the Clawson name does not appear in many of the "History of Carroll County" books, the Clawson family DID play an important role in developing the area, and still does. Most of the early Clawson's were involved in agriculture and storekeeping, and a few were postmasters and constables.

There was one child of Peter and Sarah, Vine, that died in the Civil War, one child, George, that was killed in an agricultural accident (a thashing machine exploded near Sugar Creek), one that married a well known and respected teacher and business man in the area and ...........that's where I need your help.......Many of us long lost (distant) cousins attended school together, dated each other, grew up together and even married each other......We're still here.......lets get the information together and create a piece of history for future generations.

Any pictures or documents would be greatly appreciated and returned quickly and in the same condition I receive them....Also, most importantly.....Stories.....share your memories of members of the Clawson family.........Funny, touching, sad, proud, honorable.....anything......I'll share one now: Before moving from Montgomery County Ohio..the Elder Clawson went into a store and requested a service that the storekeeper could not fullfill due to the obligation of providing fresh game for his own family.....the Elder Clawson said to him..."I can hunt better than any man in this area....if you will do this for me, I will do your hunting for you.......And that is what happened......A couple hours later the Elder Clawson and his young son returned with a bountiful catch for the storekeeper.......I know there are still a lot of Peter Clawson's descendents that are active hunters, trappers and fishermen/women....now you know "it's in your blood".
